Mixed feelings

Today, I'm having mixed feelings about my day.

I usually arrive 1.5hr before my coworkers at the office (and leave earlier too, so that I can enjoy the evenings). Today, right when I arrived at the door I realized that I did not have the right set of keys with me.
Imagine me:
-What should I do? Go home and back? No, that would take too long and god knows what's going to happen in the subway again.
-Wait here for somebody that might come earlier than usual? No, that's no going to happen...
-Go outside? Shopping? Sightseeing?
Yes, that's probably a better idea. Nix the shopping, I won't even stop at J&R.
So I went for a 1hr walk in Lower Manhattan, following Broadway from City Hall, admiring the Woolworth building, Wall st, Trinity Church and other attractions, all the way to Battery Park. I said hello to the Statue of Liberyty, and as usual, there were throngs of tourists waiting in line for the classic ferry ride. I just looked at the line and smiled. I remember that the one time I visited liberty and Ellis islands, I did not have to wait in line at all.

Then I turned back and walked north along the beautiful Hudson River waterfront. I was really enjoying the day, I've been to places where I had never ventured before (I did not know the waterfront continued north of the World Financial Center). Isn't that a great way to start the week?

Then my day at the office was busy, which is good. That was for the good part of the day.

In the evening, I just rode the A train home as usual, but the subway had so many problems it took me more than 1hour to get to my apartment. It just ruined my day that had started so well.
Oh well, tomorrow is another day. All was not so bad after all. At least I can hike in the city and I'll go climbing this week!

Is it still summer?

We're having a very good late summer season this year.... which is good for (some) outdoors activities (it was actually too hot in Chicago for the marathon today and this caused many heat related problems, including one fatality). Last Sunday, we went canoeing on the Delaware River with Corinne, Guy, Neri and Elise. I had the small yellow kayak, while the others paddled in red canoes, so I kind of felt like the group instructor :-)

Neri should post a funny video soon. Until then, the pictures are here:

It was very relaxing and gentle, with hardly a few rapids along the way. It was actually my first outdoors pursuit if the "summer", since hiking and climbing was out if the picture for the past months.
